Is your Community Healthy?

"You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

We've all heard the saying, "You are what you eat.", but have you ever stopped to think, "You are who you hang with?" 

When making the decision to get healthy and lose weight, 99% of the time we think of diet and exercise, but there is so much more to health and fitness than how we eat and workout. Whenever we set out to achieve a goal, we equip ourselves with the tools needed to complete the task. New workout clothes, healthy meal plans and gym memberships are normally where we start, and most of the time where we finish. We tend to prep ourselves with everything we need but the one thing that really could make the biggest difference - other people.

 

Our mindset, as we've discussed many times before, truly dictates whether we succeed or fail when it comes to reaching our goals, and our environment and closest relationships can have a huge impact over our psyche. 

The people we surround ourselves with are the biggest influence on our behavior, attitudes and results. Who you are around , what they’ve got you thinking, saying, doing and becoming can really set the course of your life and health.

The people you spend the most time with eventually being to shape who you are.  They determine what conversations dominate your attention. They affect to which attitudes and behaviors you are regularly exposed which can result in not so healthy habits and mindsets.

Evaluate your "social crowd" as much as you evaluate your diet and exercise routine. Surround yourself with encouraging and uplifting people who are either headed in the same direction as you, or are where you want to be. Ask yourself. Who do I spend the most time with? Who do I admire most? Are these two groups of people the same? If not, you may want to add some new relationships to your toolbox toward success.
